HOMERE aims at the development of advanced electroactive molecules/porous carbons hybrid materials for supercapacitors to combine the high capacity of redox groups and the fast charge storage kinetic of carbons. The deliverables of the project are materials suitable for high-energy, high-power and high-stability systems. Conditions for the fulfillment of these objectives require not only to limit the obstruction of the carbon porosity by accumulation of molecules at the pores entrance, but also to improve the accessibility of porosity to ions, while reducing leaching of the organic modifier. To this end, two complementary strategies will be implemented by HOMERE allowing for a better integration of molecules into carbon based supercapacitors either by controlling the covalent grafting of molecules onto the carbon surface to avoid multilayer formation or by introducing molecules as pendant groups in well-defined multifunctional polymers used as binder in supercapacitor electrodes.
