A group dedicated to
environmental transition

IMN is actively committed to environmental transition. The institute is taking concrete action to raise awareness and involve laboratory staff in major development issues.

In conjunction with the CNRS sustainable development officer, a sustainable development group has been set up. It comprises around ten people, who meet on a regular basis to propose operations, awareness-raising initiatives and collaborative events.

The Institut des Matériaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel has carried out its first greenhouse gas emissions assessment (BEGES). Total emissions for the laboratory (IMN and CMC buildings) are 1,013 tonnes eCO2 for the year 2022.

This assessment, carried out using the 1point5 GHG tool, is a first step in the CNRS low-carbon transition plan within IMN.

Environmental transition group actions

  • The institute has assessed its environmental impact in the form of a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory, and set itself targets for a low-carbon transition.
  • Implementation of waste recycling solutions in partnership with Arbres 44, a Nantes-based rehabilitation association.
  • Raising awareness of responsible modes of transport during business trips.
  • Raising awareness of the need to save energy in day-to-day use (especially in mixing rooms).
  • Organization of bicycle repair workshops to encourage the use of soft mobility.
  • Identification, by all staff, of five priority actions within IMN that will contribute to reducing the environmental footprint of our activities.

Research policy

IMN places the ecological transition at the heart of its research activities. Through its research and innovation policy, the institute contributes to scientific advances and the development of sustainable technologies in favor of the environment.

Real estate strategy

The Institute’s real estate policy fully integrates environmental issues. This is reflected in a significant improvement in the energy performance of its buildings: photovoltaic panels on the roof of the building, relamping, etc.

Training students in
environmental issues

IMN’s teacher-researchers and researchers play an active role in training students in major environmental issues. They contribute to the development of skills and knowledge by integrating environmental transition issues into the curriculum.
