The development of thin-film engineering is absolutely strategic in the advanced manufacturing of components that have to operate in extreme environments (nuclear energy, renewable energies, aeronautics in particular). These environments often combine multiple stresses, necessitating the development of multi-layer structures, architected to provide the best possible response to the multi-functionality expected in operando (diffusion barrier, resistance to oxidation and irradiation, adhesion, etc.).
