Raising awareness and training
2 essential missions

The Institut des Matériaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel encourages the dissemination of knowledge about current research to as many people as possible: promoting the sharing of knowledge between scientists and the general public, encouraging young people to take up a career in research.

Through actions both inside and outside the laboratory, the IMN contributes to the dialogue between science and society by bringing the world of research and the general public closer together.

Science Festival

Every year, the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space organizes a festival dedicated to science, the Fête de la Science, an event in which IMN has participated for over 25 years.

On the program: attractive, fun workshops to discover the work of researchers and share knowledge. Over the years, we have presented topics such as luminescence, levitation trains, plasma, magnetism, materials development and properties…

It’s an opportunity for the public and researchers to meet and share ideas.

Welcoming the general public to the laboratory

The laboratory regularly welcomes visits from the general public, who can learn about our research themes, discover our teams and state-of-the-art equipment, and enjoy rewarding discussions with our researchers and PhD students.

This immersion allows visitors to plunge into the world of public research and discover the scientific activities carried out at IMN. For young audiences, these experiments can awaken or confirm their passion for research.

A few examples of regular or one-off actions: welcoming associations for organized tours of the laboratory, welcoming elected representatives from the Pays de la Loire region in collaboration with CNRS.

Secondary school classes take part in observation internships

Our researchers and teacher-researchers are always happy to welcome young secondary school students to share their passion, accompanied by their teachers. It is therefore possible to host classes of motivated high school students, but on a very limited basis, depending on the availability of our researchers and teacher-researchers. Interventions for the general public outside the laboratory

In conjunction with school programs and activities, researchers and teacher-researchers visit schools and colleges to share advances in current research and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge. They showcase the diversity of jobs in a laboratory, stimulate the desire to do science and motivate young people to become involved in tomorrow’s research.

IMN also takes part in awareness-raising initiatives for the general public organized by Nantes Université, giving lectures as part of the Université Permanente.
