The COBEDIT project aims to synthesize new functional materials using low-temperature topochemical structural transformation of lamellar materials containing covalent anion-anion bonds. This topochemistry will use as precursors solid materials in which anionic chalcogen oligomers are sandwiched between cationic sheets. These (Qn)2-type anionic groupings (Q = S, Se) are highly reactive towards zerovalent chemical elements, and will lead either to the intercalation of cationic metals into the host lattice, or to the deinsertion of half the chalcogen atoms. Taking advantage of these topochemical reactions based on the concept of anionic redox, the project will explore new materials with quantum, optical and/or catalytic properties.
