Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion (ST2E)

The ST2E (Stockage et Transformation Electrochimiques de l’Energie – Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion) research team focuses on the synthesis, multi-scale characterization and analysis of the physico-chemical mechanisms at the heart of electrochemical energy storage and conversion devices. Structured around three main areas – batteries, supercapacitors & power batteries andhydrogen-fuel cells-electrolysers – the team brings together some fifty researchers, lecturers, engineers, post-docs and PhD students. It draws on a wide range of skills in inorganic and organic chemistry, oxide physical chemistry, electrochemistry, modeling and materials science.

With its recognized expertise, ST2E designs functional materials (electrodes with ionic and/or electronic conduction, solid electrolytes) and integrates them into operational devices, in conjunction with academic and industrial partners. Research aims to improve the performance, lifespan, safety andscope of use of systems, in particular by optimizing materials, controlling interfaces and designing new architectures. Eco-design and materials recycling are also integrated into the team’s overall approach.
