Biography
Jean Le Bideau is University Professor of Materials Chemistry at the Institut des Matériaux de Nantes Jean Rouxel (IMN, CNRS/Université de Nantes). He defended his thesis in 1994 at IMN, then did a post-doctorate at Michigan State University (USA). He was recruited as a lecturer at Montpellier in 1997, and obtained his HDR in 2005. Since 2008, he has been Professor at IMN, where he has initiated and developed innovative themes in ionogels (for energy storage) and hydrogels (for tissue engineering).
His career combines international research, industrial transfer and innovative teaching methods. He is recognized for his work on ionogels, with over 600 citations per year and worldwide collaborations (Australia, USA, Spain, Singapore). He has directed, co-directed or supervised over 15 theses, filed 10 patents and collaborated with industrialists such as Dracula Technologies, Solvay, STMicroelectronics, Total-Hutchinson, BlueSolution and Solvionic.
Committed to education, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses (TD and lectures) at the Faculty of Science of Nantes University.

 

Teaching
Teaching responsibilities :

  • General Chemistry module (L1, 440 students: Licence SV, LAS, PASS)
  • Co-director of the Graduate Program Médecine 4R (biomaterials).
  • Elected member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Science and of the Chemistry Department Council of Nantes University.

 

Expertise

  • Hybrid materials: ionogels, hydrogels, solid electrolytes.
  • Energy storage: batteries, supercapacitors, micro-devices.
  • Tissue engineering: biomaterials, injectable hydrogels.

 

Activities in the research community

  • Co-leader of the Physics of Materials and Nanostructures team (PMN, ~ 40 EC, C & CDD), IMN (since January 2020)
  • Chargé de mission for relations with Australia, Nantes Université (since 2019). Co-initiator of the Franco-Australian IRN on materials and energy.
  • Member of ANR scientific committee
