Philippe Poizot, guest editor alongside Yan Yao and Kenichi Oyaizu for *Chemistry Europe*

Congratulations to guest editors Philippe Poizot (IMN), Yan Yao (professor atColumbia University, United States), and Kenichi Oyaizu (Waseda University, Japan) on this joint special collection published by the journals *Batteries & Supercaps* and *ChemSusChem*, from Chemistry Europe!
This special issue brings together a wide range of articles that highlight both the remarkable progress and the remaining challenges in this rapidly evolving field.
Organic batteries are emerging as a versatile platform for more sustainable electrochemical energy storage solutions, offering the potential to reduce dependence on critical and toxic elements while leveraging the exceptional structural diversity, synthesis flexibility, and circularity potential of redox-active organic materials.
This book reflects the growing diversification of organic battery chemistries, beyond conventional lithium-ion storage. It covers lithium-ion and sodium-ion systems, as well as magnesium- and aluminum-based batteries, redox flow batteries, and emerging p-type organic electrodes based on reversible anion capture. It also illustrates how the field is gradually evolving from proof-of-concept redox chemistry toward material- and cell-level considerations. Strategies addressing electrode/electrolyte compatibility, ion and electron transport, interfacial engineering, full-cell operation, and the coordination of multivalent ions complement the molecular design of active materials.
Now that the collection is complete, we warmly invite readers to explore these contributions and discover the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the field of organic batteries.
